Dis-Ability Manchester

Along with Manchester Metropolitan University we hosted an event on Wednesday, 3rd December 2014 to underline and celebrate the abilities that our disabled community have. At the event there was:
- Exhibition Stands
- Workshops
- Inspirational Speakers
There was also a Staff vs Student University Challenge!
Disability
A person is defined as having a disability for the purposes of discrimination law if he or she has a physical or mental impairment which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on his or her ability to carry out normal day to day activities.
The University also has a dedicated Disability Support Office (DSO) working with a large number of students including those with:
- specific learning difficulties (such as dyslexia)
- mental health difficulties (such as anxiety)
- medical conditions (such as epilepsy and arthritis)
- deaf and hard of hearing students
- blind and partially sighted students
- students with autism/Asperger syndrome etc.

The University is proud to hold the Disabled Two Ticks Symbol. This is recognition given by Job Centre Plus to employers who have agreed to take action to meet five commitments regarding the employment of disabled people.
There is also an interactive campus map provided by DisabledGo and this is now available as an app - making it even easier to navigate the campus:
